Who are we?

About AIT: the team behind the IT in 249 UK schools

We've thrived from word of mouth and recommendations, because service is at the heart of everything we do. Renowned for flexibility, service and innovation; AIT have delivered ICT solutions tailored to education for over 20 years.

Today that word of mouth reaches every corner of the UK: 249 schools and 20 trusts rely on our 75-strong team for IT support, installations and connectivity — with the platforms we've built along the way included with our service, not sold on top.

WHY US?

The right people, in the right places

AIT have worked within the Education Sector for two decades and our talented team have over 150 years of experience combined; which has given us a unique understanding of the challenges Schools and Trusts face when it comes to their ICT requirements, and long-term strategic planning.

Specialising in the Public Sector, we've cultivated strong partnerships with industry leaders, expanding our team of dedicated experts. AIT aspires to be a premier Education ICT Partner in the UK, driven by foundational principles embedded in every aspect of our services. Established in 2000, we provide innovative ICT solutions, partnering with over 150 UK education establishments. Our consistent, sustainable growth stems from a customer-first ethos, and our technical staff, many recruited from school SLT and IT positions, are committed to the education sector's ethos of teaching and learning.

That number keeps growing: we now support 249 schools and 20 trusts, from single-form-entry primaries to some of the country's largest multi-academy trusts. Wherever your school is in the UK, the person who answers your call has worked in — or for — a school like yours. There's more on what makes us different on our Why Us page.

75 people, from service desk analysts to network architects, many recruited straight from school IT roles.

Agile & Proactive

We plan around the school year: big works in the holidays, light-touch support in exam season, no surprises.

HERE FOR YOU

Together we are stronger

Originating at a Nottingham secondary academy, part of a local multi-academy trust, we've evolved into one of the UK's leading education IT providers, supporting 249 schools & MATs. Under our Managing Director's ownership since 2010, AIT's management team, sharing a unified vision, fuels our continuous growth.

Our vision from day one has always remained the same; to enrich the lives of those we serve through the use of tech and create unified seamless solutions which really do meet the requirements of users. Through centralised cloud solutions via our wholly owned data centres we are enabling schools, MATs and businesses to integrate their IT solutions whilst maximising budgets and never compromising on performance, speed and service. Our comprehensive services include strategic ICT planning, implementation consultancy, project management, procurement and asset management, and more. Our diverse solutions encompass application and desktop virtualisation, Microsoft infrastructures, networking, security, data storage, and more.

The story didn't stop in the East Midlands. The same approach that filled our first patch — do the work well, let heads recommend us to other heads — has carried AIT across the UK, and today our engineers are as likely to be commissioning a network in the North West or the South East as they are ten minutes from head office. Growing nationally forced us to get serious about how we run ourselves, which is where the next section comes in.

1

2000

AIT is founded inside a school, built by people doing the job it now supports.

2

2010

New ownership, same vision: an education-only MSP with service at its core.

3

2016

Wholly owned data centres bring schools' cloud services in-house.

4

2021

We build AIT Atlas to run our own operations — rota, fleet, projects and people in one place.

Today

249 schools and 20 trusts across the UK, supported by a 75-strong team.

Built like a school leadership team, run like one too

We deliberately structure AIT the way our schools structure themselves. A senior leadership team — led by our Managing Director — owns strategy, standards and safeguarding of the service; heads of service delivery, technical services, projects and commercial each carry their own remit, their own team and their own accountability. Below them sit the people you'll actually meet: service desk analysts who take your first call, field engineers who hold regular site days, project engineers who deliver the summer works, and a procurement and admin team who keep quotes, orders and renewals moving.

Of our 75 people, around 41 are engineers — the rest keep those engineers supplied, scheduled and supported. Many of the team came to us from school IT offices and SLT roles, so "it needs doing before the bell" isn't something we have to explain to them.

How we run a 75-strong team

Navigate. Manage. Deliver.

Anyone can promise "we'll get an engineer to you." The reason we can keep that promise at national scale is AIT Atlas — the operations platform we built ourselves to run our people, projects, schools and technology from one place.

  • Rota. Every engineer's week is planned in Atlas's Rota module: scheduled site days, project blocks, on-call cover and holiday-period surge staffing, all set around term dates. When your school books a visit, it lands in a real diary, not an inbox.
  • Fleet. Our liveried vans are managed through Atlas Fleet — around 30 vehicles, each stocked, serviced and assigned so an engineer never arrives without the kit the job needs. (Illustrative figure.)
  • CRM. Every school we support is a record in Atlas: sites, contacts, kit, history. A new engineer walking into your building for the first time already knows it.
  • HR. Training, qualifications and vetting for all 75 staff are tracked in Atlas HR, so safeguarding-compliant, DBS-checked engineers are the only kind we can roster to a school.

Atlas is one of four platforms we've built for the job — alongside AIT Horizon, our leadership dashboard for finance, compliance and strategy; Helpdesk Reporting, which shows you how your support is really performing; and AIT Ordering, which tracks every quote through PO to delivery. Atlas runs us; the other three work for you — and all of them are included with our service, not sold on top. Clients reach every platform through one door: the Customer Portal.

Always working to DfE Standards and beyond

We have everything you need to meet DfE guidelines for your Digital and IT standards in your school, MAT or college. Our services support full compliance with the all DfE requirements including:

  • Prevent Duty
  • Keeping Children Safe in Education
  • Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) Block List and Image Hash List
  • Home Office Terrorism Block List
  • UK Safer Internet Centre
  • British Standards
  • GDPR & ICO

Where a school wants those standards turned into a working plan rather than a checklist, our IT strategy and digital vision service builds the roadmap with you.

The best school IT people tend to end up here

A team this size only works if it keeps attracting people who care about schools. If you're in a school IT role now — or you want colleagues who've done that job — see what it's like to work somewhere the rota, the van and the training plan are actually organised.

Frequently asked questions

Across the whole of the UK. Our head office is in Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire, but our engineers are rostered nationally through AIT Atlas, with scheduled site days and project visits planned around each school's calendar. If your school is in the UK, we can build a support model around it — get in touch or call 0115 9170 197 to talk through your location.

We're a 75-strong team, established in 2000, supporting 249 schools and 20 trusts. That includes service desk analysts, field and project engineers, network and cloud specialists, and a procurement and admin team — many recruited directly from school IT and SLT roles, so they understand school life from the inside.

Atlas is the operations platform we built to run AIT itself — engineer rotas, our vehicle fleet, project schedules and staff training all live in it, which is how we deliver reliably at national scale. Our client-facing platforms — AIT Horizon, Helpdesk Reporting and AIT Ordering — are included with our service, not sold on top. There's no platform licence line on an AIT invoice.

Through one login hub: the Customer Portal. It's the single door to AIT Horizon, Helpdesk Reporting, AIT Atlas project views and AIT Ordering, so leaders, office staff and IT contacts each reach the tools relevant to them.

Schools, trusts and colleges are our specialism and our focus — it's the sector our team came from and the only one we build services for. Everything on this site, from support to trust-wide services, is designed around how schools actually run.
